With a sharp "crack" a shaft of purple lightning stabbed down from the
black night sky and struck the sturdy, square chimney of the garden
gnome factory. Inside the factory, unseen, except by a startled mouse,
the lights on the Autognome machine flickered for a moment. The big
drive wheel gave one turn and in the darkness, something clunked onto
the conveyor...

There was once a Little Green Planet circling a beautiful golden sun.
Every day the little planet would turn slowly round to warm all of
herself except her top and bottom which only got warmed a little each
year, such that they wore pretty white ice caps. She was a contented
planet. Her oceans, drawn up by the sun to form clouds and rain,
watered much of the land and fed rivers which returned the water to the
sea. Many trees and flowers grew; their leaves clothing the land with
beautiful greens of every shade, which the flower petals dappled with

It was August. The Little
Green Planet was humming down the
left had side of her orbit when she heard a sigh. It was the deep,
heavy sigh, of one who is over-burdened with worry and does not know
which way to turn. “Who’s there” she called, as there was no one
visible. “The Creator” came the reply. “Oh” exclaimed the Little Green
Planet excitedly, I can’t see you, where are you?” “Everywhere” -
the
word spoken heavily.

One of the first things the Brainies did with their new bigger brains,
was to discover brewing. Although they lived comfortable lives on
the Little Green Planet, they had found to their dismay that being
clever was not all fun. There were a whole lot of thoughts in their
heads which were not easy to ignore. Their new state of mind needed
wisdom if these thoughts were not to make life miserable. |
It’s clear that my “exit strategy” worked to perfection as I am
certainly not alive (in old terms). I went down the obligatory tunnel
with the bright light at the far end.
I remember thinking: “So far so good – but does the tunnel go up or
down?” In fact there was no up or down sensation, making good
quantum-mechanical sense if you are out of material reality and
“elsewhere”. Anyway, I popped out of the end onto damp sand – in the
middle of a Jack Vettriano painting! Yup (smugly). No word of a lie |
